(August 4, 2016) Gabriele Abbondanza is an Italo-Australian PhD Researcher, who was born in Rome and since 2012 has been living in Sydney. He has a BA in Political Science from the Roma Tre University, and also possesses a MA by Research in International Security which he obtained at the University of Sydney. In his latest book “Italy as a Regional Power: The African Context from National Unification to the Present Day” (Aracne, 2016) he examines the degree of influence exerted by Italy in its geopolitical context, with special focus on Libya and the Horn of Africa. On August 18 at the Italian Institute of Culture in Sidney, SBS Radio Domenico Gentile will present the book with an interview to the author. With the aid of different research methods and thanks to two exclusive interviews (Giulio Terzi di Sant’Agata e Vincenzo Ruggero Manca), this work traces the many stages that have characterized Italian foreign policy in its sphere of influence, its successes and failures, from the country’s early colonial policies to the latest events. Images, graphics, maps and confidential documents further enrich the debate on one of the most ancient but controversial regional powers. The aim of the book is to give an answer to three fundamental questions for Italy’s foreign policy: How did the Italy’s role of regional power evolve? How has it changed from the Unification of Italy to our time? On the basis of which mechanisms has this happened? (Red)
