Rio de Janeiro – Elisa Di Francisca couldn’t go for seconds. After the individual gold in foil, as well as in teams, of London 2012, , the Italian fencer was not able to overcome the Russian Inna Deriglazova but still managed to take home a prestigious silver medal. After an initial Italian advantage, it was the Russian who placed six consecutive thrusts, bringing the score to 7-3 in her favor. Elisa attempted a comeback using all her best techniques and thus canceling three hits. Deriglazova however did not give up and eventually prevailed 12-11. Since the first meeting, however, Elisa had proved her superiority. A 15-8 as a start with Lin (Hong Kong), then the final 15-6 against the Polish Lyczbinska and the display of strength against the Chinese Liu (15-10) had opened up the doors of the semi-final, victorious against the Tunisian Boubakri (12-9). Her silver five circles gives Italy the eleventh medal in the XXXI edition of the Games in Rio de Janeiro Summer. (9Colonne)
