(October 25, 2016) The Embassy of Italy in China confirms its commitment to support Italian companies in the agri-food sector interested in the Chinese market. It was held today in Beijing the fourth Italian-Chinese Dialogue on Food Security, an important opportunity for exchange between high-level experts of the Ministry of Health, the China Food and Drug Administration and research centers and Italian and Chinese think-tank. The dialogue – organized by the Italian Embassy in Beijing – is an important opportunity to promote our food products because it helps illustrate to the Chinese authorities called to allow our exports, Italy’s high level of food safety and veterinary health. After the events of the last three years, respectively dedicated to olive oil, dairy products and pork, this year’s edition focused on beef, with an analysis of breeding processes, slaughter, preservation and distribution of Italian products. “The Italian food safety standards are offered to the Chinese as a model to continue working together to exchange best practices – said the Ambassador of Italy in China, Ettore Sequi, during his speech -. The goal is the elevation of the quality and safety standards, the elimination of remaining barriers to trade and greater access to the Chinese market for Italian food products. ” Sequi then recalled that “food security in Italy is a fundamental political choice, and closely linked to the national health system because the protection of health begins with a healthy diet and, therefore, with proper control of agricultural food production.” To talk about the health conditions of the farms, the quality and safety of Italian meat, the Ministry of Health has sent to Beijing general managers Silvio Borrello and Giuseppe Ruocco, accompanied by experts of the respective Directorates-General and the Istituto Zooprofilattico Sperimentale of Turin. Ruocco and Borrello stressed that scientific research, advanced legislation on food safety, a rigorous and effective system of controls have allowed Italy to acquire a wealth of best practices unique to the world. The approach called “One Health”, more and more a standard in our country, allows Italy to offer excellence and quality through an industry safe food and food products that are increasingly popular with Chinese consumers.
