Porto. Verona ranks as being among the 10 wine capitals of the world. The city of Romeo and Juliet will represent Italy in the world of wine tourism. Nicola Baldo, council member of the Verona Chamber of Commerce signed a document for Verona to adhere to Great Wine Capitals in Porto, Portugal. Verona will be the only representing city in Italy as wine capital of the world. The Great Wine Capitals network in fact, (Great Wine Capitals Global Network, GWC) brings ten major international cities together that share one of their main economic and cultural aspects: their wine regions. It is the only network that links wine regions of “Old Europe” and the “New World”. The GWC wants to promote trade, tourism and academics from the prestigious wine regions of Adelaide in Australia, Bilbao – Rioja (Spain), Bordeaux (France), Cape Town (South Africa), Mainz (Germany), Mendoza (Argentina), Porto (Portugal), San Francisco – Napa Valley (USA) and Valparaiso – Casablanca Valley (Chile). The tenth capital will therefore be Verona. (9Colonne)
