(6 December, 2016) Last week the ERTV Headquarters (Educational Radio TV) was inaugurated in Kabul, whose restructuring was closely followed and funded by Italy via UNESCO since 2003. The tv-radio station is equipped with state of the art equipment for the broadcasting of educational programmes targeted towards docents and the general public. Thanks to Italy’s financial contribution in September, ERTV is visible via satellite in all 34 provinces of the country. Therefore reaching the most remote areas that lack schools or whose schools are difficult to access for local safety reasons and political instability. Ambassador Robert Cantone, the director of AICS Afghanistan Rosario Centola, the Minister for Education Assadullah Haneef Balkhi and UNESCO representatives were all present at the inauguration ceremony. A documentary film was shown during the ceremony about the historical and cultural legacy of Bamyan commissioned by the Italian Cooperatione effort as part of a sereis of documentary screenings on Afghan cultural heritage.
