Athens. On Christmas day, a child in critical conditions was medically transported to Rome from Athens. A C130 of the Italian Air Force took off in Pisa and flew to the military airport of Elefsina (Athens) to ultimately land in Ciampino (Rome) that same night. The aircraft was equipped with an ambulance and an available medical team from Rome’s Pediatric Hospital “Bambino Gesù” due to lack of assistance in Greece. This was possible in these days of holidays thanks to the prompt collaboration between Greek and Italian Air Forces, the willingness of the Bambino Gesù hospital, the support of the Onassis Cardiological Centre of Athens and numerous contacts between the embassies and the relevant ministries.
