(27 May 2016) “The strengthening of institutional capacity is one of the keystones to allow a democratic transition to succeed in Myanmar. A Parliament able to legislate more effectively will make an essential contribution to this process and I am particularly proud that Italy is intervening in this area in a timely way “. This is what was emphasised by the Italian Ambassador in Yangon, Pier Giorgio Aliberti, in the sidelines of the closing ceremony held in Nay Pyi Taw during the second phase of a project to strengthen the capacities of the Burmese Parliament. It is a project co-financed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation and the National School of Administration, implemented by the latter together with Ipalmo (Institute for Relations between Italy and the countries of Africa, Latin America and Middle East). “Thanks to this initiative – a statement issued by our embassy – sixty-six Members of Parliament and Burmese parliamentary officials have been able to learn innovative tools of public policy analysis, improving knowledge of parliamentary processes and procedures of other jurisdictions”. The ceremony was also attended by the vice president of the lower house, U T Khun Myat, who expressed strong appreciation for the results achieved. (Red)
