(30 December, 2016) Nearly a century ago, in February of 1918, the nation state of Lithuania rose from the ashes of the Tsarist Empire. The Lithuanian philosopher, Stasys Šalkauskis describes its birth as the end of an era. Today, Andrea Griffante publishes “Tra Oriente e Occidente. Stasys Salkauskis e la sua idea di Lituania” (Between East and West. Stasys Šalkauskis and his idea of Lithuania) about this fascinating period in history. The book presentation will be held on Tuesday 7 February, 2017 at 18:00 at the Italian Cultural Institute of Vilnius. After centuries of both Eastern and Western domination and cultural influences, Lithuania has embarked on a new era in which she reached maturity and the capacity to construct its own civilisation in relation to its neighbouring countries and to be a mitigator within the region.
