(January 10, 2017) “Orlando the hero in opera”: This is the topic of the seminar that the Italian Institute of Culture of Munich and Forum Italia e.V. organized for January 19 (6PM) at the IIC headquarters. The seminar will be held by Professor Florian Mehltretter. “The protagonist of the Orlando Furioso of Ariosto is also the hero of many operas of 17th and 18th century – says the presentation -. But how do you cut the narrative woods of Ariosto’s novel, so complex and interwoven, to achieve a single and accomplished action? The seminar aims to examine more solutions to solve this dramaturgical problem and enjoy the many beautiful moments of the opera repertoire”. Florian Mehltretter studied in Munich and Florence. In 1994 he completed his doctorate at the Free University of Berlin with a thesis on the opera libretto of the Italian Baroque. He qualified in 2003 in Cologne on the theme of the Enlightenment in France. In 2010 he obtained a professorship in Romance Philology at the University of Cologne. Since 2011 he teaches Italian literature at the Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich. (Red)
