(19 January 2017) The ‘green’ revolution is taking place at the Italian Embassy in Abu Dhabi. In recent days, two photovoltaic cells were installed at the Embassy in the context of the “Green Embassy” project promoted by the division for renewable resources of ENEL Group, ENEL Green Power in collaboration with the Ministry for foreign affairs and International cooperation as well as the Italian Embassy in Abu Dhabi. “I am very proud of the success of this project, thanks to the extraordinary collaboration with ENEL Group. It is an extraordinary project that underlines the great attention the Ministry for Foreign Affairs has for environmental sustainability” according to the Italian Ambassador to the United Arab Emirates, Liborio Stellino. “I am also extremely proud of these photovoltaic cells, the first ever to come into effect in an Embassy in the United Arab Emirates. I am confident that this important initiative, which is also a remarkable example of economic diplomacy and ‘public-private partnerships’ will further strengthen Abu Dhabi’s reputation along with its achievements among the international diplomatic community”. The “Green Embassy” project, or “Farnesina Verde” demonstrates the Italian Foreign Ministry’s and the consular/diplomatic network to marry tradition, technology, and environmental awareness in the search for eco-friendly solutions. The project was launched in 2010 with the installation by Enel Green Power of a photovoltaic cells worth 50 kWp on the roof of the Italian Embassy in Brasilia. Over the course of the years, other photovoltaic cells where installed on the roof of the Foreign Ministry as well as many other Italian Embassies and Consulates in the world including those in London, Teheran, Dhaka, Casablanca, Rio de Janeiro, and Asmara. The photovoltaic cell installed by ENEL Group on the roof of the Italian Embassy in Brasilia generates approximately 62,000 kWh per year covering approximately 15% of the embassy’s energy demand, thus eliminating nearly 3 tonnes of Carbon emissions. Also in Brazil, in the context of the “Green Embassy Project”, ENEL Group has recently installed 29 kWh photovoltaic cells on the roof of the Italian Consulate of Rio de Janeiro. The system should generate approximately 31,200 kWh per year covering approximately 62% of the Consulate’s energy needs and thus reducing the 19 tonnes of Carbon emissions per year. (Red)
