Tunis. Tunis continues the Foreign Minister Angelino Alfano’s mission who, after being received by President Essebsi, has had very cordial meetings with his Tunisian counterpart, Foreign Minister, Khemaies Jhinaoui and with Prime Minister, Youssef Chahed. During the first meeting, according to a statement from the Foreign Ministry, at the request of Minister Alfano, who evoked “the historical continuity and the community of destinies of the bilateral relations,” Minister Jhinaoui indicated his priorities for cooperation: opportunities for youth training, economic development of the inland areas, the fight against terrorism, President Essebsi’s invitation to the G7 summit in Taormina, energy interconnection (ELMED project involving Terna and the Tunisian counterpart STEG) and further development of new settlements (in particular palm groves) in the desert in the south of the country. “Our goal – said Alfano – is to achieve a qualitative leap in relations between the two countries and to conclude a preliminary agreement for President Essebsi’s State visit to Italy on February 8”.
