(26 January 2016) Training, study, professional development and career launching. Three days in Washington to demonstrate the best that Italian universities have to offer. Professor Fabio Rugge, the chancellor of the University of Pavia is leading this mission to the United States as the delegate for CRUI Conferenza dei Rettori delle Università Italiane (Conference for Italian University Chancellors). Rugge will guide a delegation of 35 Italian universities welcomed by the Italian Embassy in Washington DC for the Symposium on Italian-USA Universities that started on Tuesday and ends today. This event was organised by CRUI and the Italian Embassy in Washington. “This is an unprecedented event organised by CRUI. The three-day symposium involves many American universities or associations affiliated with universities such as research institutions and multilateral banks. The Italian university will be presented as a single entity and as the opportunity to highlight everything its has to offer. Italy is the second most popular destination for American university students after the United Kingdom. However, they apply for courses such as art, music, architecture etc. whereas we are trying to push them towards physics, medicine, pharmacology, or biology. The objective of the initiative is to achieve a strong relationship between CRUI, the Ministry for Foreign Affairs, and the Ministry for Universities. For 2017, the initiative will look beyond the United States towards India, Israel, and Mexico” according to Rugge. (Red)
