Gdansk – Italy women’s foil team redeems the individual trials and triumphs in the team competition that ends the Gdansk leg of the World Cup circuit. The Italian team showed up on stage with a new formation composed of Martina Batini, Alice Volpi, Camilla Mancini and Chiara Cini, replacing Arianna Errigo forced to stay in Italy for the aftermath of influenza. Changing the protagonists, however, did not change the final result which saw the national anthem resound through the Polish sky thanks to the decisive 45-44 thrust scored by Martina Batini in the assault of the final against France. The Italian quartet got to the final having defeated in the semifinals with a 45-43 score the United States. Earlier, in the first match of the day, the Italians had overcome Austria, with a 45-23 score, then continuing with the clear victory against Germany in the quarterfinals, with a 45-18 score.
