Tadmor (Syria). Two busts from the National Museum of Palmyra have re-entered Syria after their sojourn at the Superior Institute for Conservation and Restoration of the Ministry for Cultural Heritage, Activities, and Tourism for the exhibition “Rinascere dalla distruzioni. Ebla, Nimrud, Palmira” held at the Colosseum from October 7 until December 11, 2016. The two pieces were vandalised by Daesh militiamen during their occupation of the archaeological site. They were subjected to high-tech conservation work in the laboratory specialised in stone in the San Michele a Ripa site where large portions of the pieces, after accurate diagnostic tests with state of the art technology, were reconstructed virtually followed by 3D printed models, and reproduced for sintering of powders and fixed to the original in a reversible manner.
