Saguenay – There will be a bit of Italy at the 14th biennial of the International Marionette Arts Festival scheduled in Saguenay, Quebec, from July 25 to 30, 2017. Thanks to the collaboration with the Italian Cultural Institute of Montreal, the festival will also host Gianluca Di Matteo, an Italian puppeteer internationally recognized as a master of Italian traditional interpretation. His performance The Pulcinella’s Le Guarattelle will be part of the free FIAMS program at the Parc de la rivière aux sables. Guarattella is a Neapolitan dialetical word that indicates ‘a situation that although very simple makes it very tangled’. In the theatrical jargon, guarattelle are traditional performances featuring Neapolitan puppets, based on old canovaccios dating back to the 17th century, where Pulcinella meets and clashes with the typical figures of the popular theater (the bully, the fierce dog, the blind, the death).
