Paris. The world’s largest and most sophisticated magnet with a record number of TF coils weighing 120 tonnes and measuring 9m wide and 16m long recently left ASG Superconductors in La Spezia. It also broke records in transport with a Self Propelled Truck – 24-axle remote controlled vehicle that will transport it to the “Bremer Helena” ship to Marghera for further processing. After the “cashing” phase, the TF Coil (toroidal magnet) will continue on to its final destination in Cadarache, France, home of the ITER project. The aim of the ITER project is to reproduce energy by nuclear fusion, as it occurs on the Sun and in the stars. (9Colonne)
