London. A research study on the composition of bacterial communities, known as microbiota that reside in the intestine of different typologies of chickens – breeding, free-range, and wild – has been published in the prestigious scientific journal “Environmental Microbiology”. The study used a multi-omic approach based on the use of metagenomics and traditional microbiology techniques. The study featured in the article was coordinated by Prof. Marco Ventura, head of the Probiogenomics Laboratory of the Department of Chemical Sciences, Life and Environmental Sustainability, and the Director of the Inter-Departmental Centre ‘Microbiome Research Hub’ at the University of Parma.
