London. Annamaria Cattaneo, researcher of the IRCCS Fatebenefratelli of Brescia, has published a study on the theme of “Major Depression” on “Molecular Psychiatry” demonstrating how environmental factors, and stressful and traumatic events during the first years of life can have a symbiotic effect with the vulnerability determined by one’s genetic background. This study reinforces the idea that some gene variants, also known as polymorphisms, can interact with the adverse environment, making some subjects more vulnerable than others to the onset of psychopathologies. The study was published in the article titled “FoxO1, A2M and TGFB1: three new genes that predict depression as a consequence of the interaction between vulnerability genes and adverse environmental conditions”.
