Beijing – “Creuza De Mao” is the title of the book written by Zhang Changxiao, aka Sean White, a writer of Chinese origins. Over 100,000 copies sold in China of the first book written in Chinese dedicated to Italian music and songwriters. “If you can turn your passion into your job, you will be the happiest person in the world. If you really commit yourself you can, even if it may seem something absurdlike a Chinese who falls in love with De André », according to Sean. The book, released in China in 2015, is a sincere and passionate tribute to Italian music and its songwriters, told by the author to his compatriots. His love for songwriting arose after listening to a song by De André: from that moment on he discovered Italian songwriters and became impassioned by them, to the extent that he decided to introduce them to his home country, where it proved to be a success. In “Creuza de Mao” Sean translated and explained some of the most appreciated singer-songwriters from the Italian music scene, analysing their musical style and stylistic references. Lucio Dalla, Francesco De Gregori, Francesco Guccini, Ligabue, and Jovanotti are just some of the great names that Sean writes about in his book. Particular attention is paid to Fabrizio De André, whom the author took inspiration for his title. The Genoese singer-songwriter is the main theme of this project that links Italy to China: his song “Nella mia ora di libertà” was the first to grab Sean’s attention and to make him fall in love with Italian songwriting and to spread it in the East. “Creuza de Mao” will soon be available in Italy in a translated and updated version.
