St. Petersburg – On April 16th, with the collaboration of the Italian Cultural Institute of St. Petersburg, the documentary “Villa Visconti Borromeo Litta will be presented at the Hermitage of St. Petersburg. A journey through four centuries of history between the pleasures of art and water games” by Francesco Vitali, co-produced by the Municipality of Lainate and the Friends of Villa Litta Association of Lainate Onlus. The history of the Villa Visconti Borromeo Litta begins at the end of the sixteenth century, with the Pirro I Visconti Borromeo Conte di Brebbia’s decision to renovate an agricultural farmhouse in Lainate. Over the years, thanks to great artists and architects of the time, such as Martino Bassi, Camillo, and Giulio Cesare Procaccini and Marco Antonio Prestinari, the farmhouse has gradually turned into one of the architectural masterpieces of the late sixteenth century. In the palace, Pirro kept some of the masterpieces he purchased as an art collector and commissioned by him as a patron. The documentary film also highlights some important figures of the Litta family, including Giulio Renato Litta Visconti Arese, in Russia known as Julij René Pompeevic Litta, who was an Italian admiral and naturalised Russian at the behest of Catherine II.
