(Jun. 6th) – Last Saturday, the Caia community has celebrated the opening of a new hospital at the presence of Armando Emilio Guebeza, President of the Republic of Mozambique. The new structure has been set up and launched with the collaboration of several organizations and thanks to an agreement signed in May 2011 between the Province of Sofala, the Autonomous Province of Trento and the Italian Cooperation – Embassy of Italy in Mozambique. The project has been implemented by the Consorzio Associazioni con il Mozambico and with Medici con l’Africa Cuamm. The opening of the hospital is a milestone for the health care of the people of the Caia District, in Mozambique, where many children suffer from malaria, dysentery, malnutrition, tuberculosis, and where there is a high rate of HIV. The hospital still lacks staff, both basic and specialized, and the home care network needs a lot of work. The region of Trentino has been involved in this helping path for over 10 years, through multi-sectoral program coordinated by Consorzio Associazioni con il Mozambico, which is also active in many sectors, such as the socio-educational, rural development, microcredit , planning and land management, water and sanitation, and a community radio.
