Jan. 28 – The US awareness campaign by Mipaaf and Unaprol to stimulate consumer demand for Italian extra virgin olive oil continues. The US is, in fact, Italy’s first trading partner for extra virgin olive oil and virgin olive oils in general. From January to September of last year, it imported about 160 thousand tons of product, a +11% increase compared to the same period of 2011, of which between 52-56% from Italy. Spain follows with a share of 24% and Tunisia is in third place with 12%. The figures were released today in New York by Unaprol during the opening press conference of “Vinitaly U.S.” in which the Italian olive consortium organizes, with the support of the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, the exhibition “Typical Italian Oil Products.” The partnership is engaged in a promotional program including workshops, taste tests, mini-courses and meetings with the press. The second appointment for the promotion of Italian oil products is scheduled for Wednesday in Miami. During the tasting event, three olive oils will be proposed: the fruity oils from the Venetian Redoro the Grezzana (Vr) mills (Northern Italy); the fruity oils from the mill cooperative in Paladino di Palo del Colle (Ba) (Southern Italy); and the intense fruitiness of the oil mill Guglielmi di Andria (Bat), also from Southern Italy.
