Feb. 13 – “Italy is the first European country for exports of organic products and one of the largest markets within the EU is Germany, where ‘organic’ cuisine is an ingrained habit, with an average turnover that reaches € 6 billion a year, equivalent to almost one third of the total value of the sector in the EU (€20 billion). This is why events like “BioFach”, the BIO World Fair that officially opens today in Nuremberg, represent for our farming industry one of the most important and profitable international fairs.” Says ANABIO, the National Association for Organic Farming under the management of the Italian Farmers Confederation. “Among the internationalized ‘organic’ Italian companies, nine out of ten export to Germany – explains Anabio – but there is still huge room for growth across the border, since (according to ICE) the German market’s biological potential is around € 13 billion. BioFach, then, is a great opportunity for our organic farms, in terms of visibility and business opportunities. Just last year the number of operators in the sector increased from 47,663 units to 48,269 and today Italy hosts one third of the organic companies in Europe, with a bio area of over one million and 200 thousand hectares.”
