Feb. 28 – Roberta Sessoli, Professor of General and Inorganic Chemistry of the University of Florence, was named a member of the Advisory Council of the European Union, a new body that will provide direct advice to the Commission’s President, Jose Manuel Barroso, on science, research and innovation. Yesterday, Brussels hosted the first meeting of the new Advisory Committee, which brings together experts from academia, business and civil society, selected on the basis of their scientific reputation and social and communication skills, from President Barroso and the European Commission chief scientific adviser, Anne Glover. The committee, independent and informal, will cover a broad range of disciplines and will have a clear social dimension, identifying topics and themes useful to support future growth and development in Europe.
