Mar. 8 – A training course to support “Unmiss” (United Nations Mission in South Sudan) carried out by the United Nations in South Sudan and, more generally, to increase the governance capacity of the newly-founded state. These are the premises upon which, from last Monday and until March 13, the International Training Programme for Conflict Management course was set up and coordinated by the Scuola Superiore Sant’Anna of Pisa, under the scientific supervision of Andreas de Guttry, Professor of International Law. This training initiative, aimed at more than 30 participants, is crucial for a country that has recently made its entry into the international community and whose political and economic instability threatens to derail the new institutional setup. A South Sudan able to meet the challenges of reconstruction, that knows how to organize its institutions, both central and peripheral, respectful of international standards in terms of democracy and human rights. These are the underlying characteristics of a more secure and more reliable state both internally and at the regional level. The Scuola Superiore Sant’Anna of Pisa, at the request of the UNMISS, hence set up a training program for local staff and among the higher ranks Institutional South Sudan to meet the challenges of state-building.
