Apr. 16 – The respected scientific journal Virology published a study conducted by the Unit of Microbiology and Virology within the Department of Clinical and Experimental Medicine at the University of Parma. The study highlights the important role of Toll-like receptor 4 cell for infections with human cytomegalovirus in a human macrophage cell model. The research was conducted by Prof. Maria Cristina Arcangeletti in collaboration with professors Carlo Chezzi, Adriana Calderaro, Maria Cristina Medici, Flora De Conto and Doctors Diego Germini and Isabella Rodighiero. All belong to Unit of Microbiology and Virology, Department of Clinical and Experimental Medicine of the University (directed by Prof. Adriana Calderaro). The research has also sought the cooperation of professors Prisco Mirandola and Rita Gatti, of Department of Biomedical, Biotechnology and Translational Science the same University. The results were obtained through basic research conducted exclusively at the University of Parma, mainly by the research team. The work was made possible thanks to the techniques to research and identify the cytomegalovirus, through conventional and molecular methods applied daily to diagnostics. “The work done – reads a note – is proof that enthusiasm and expertise allow the Ateneo to achieve internationally recognized scientific results.”
