Apr. 24 – The University of Macerata hosted, yesterday, an official meeting between the Dean of the University Luigi Lacchè and the Ambassador of the Republic of Azerbaijan Vaqif Sadiqov. “It is a first step – said Lacchè – so that our university can create a new center of studies focusing on the Caucasus and in particular Azerbaijan.” The two institutions have already identified possible areas of scientific cooperation. In particular, Azerbaijan is interested in testing the possibility of partnerships with Macerata institutions and businesses, not only from the cultural point of view, but also from a business perspective. Currently, Italy is Azerbaijan’s main economic partner: in 2011, Azerbaijan exported products for a total value of $9.341 billion, while it imported from Italy products for a total value of $254.57 million. Also in 2011, Azerbaijan became the first supplier of oil to Italy.
