May 15 – Chiara Capone, Dalila Cingolani and Anastasia Pitotti are three students of the Lecce “Costa Galilei” school. Accompanied by their English teacher, Elisabetta D’Errico, they have just returned from London, where they were invited by “Waste Watch” to illustrate their waste management and disposal project. With the organizers, they discussed recycling effort and possible future collaborations. Luna Zabalza-Gomez (Schools Engagement Team Leader) along with Julia Faye Roebuck and Tom Bartlett (Education Officers) are the leaders of “Waste Watch.” They welcomed the girls and were highly impressed by their excellent work. The trip to London was financed with the €2.500 reward granted to the team by the Lecce Province for winning first place in the “Environmental Project” competition. The girls, coordinated and assisted by Professor D’Errico, participated in the competition by designing an awareness poster on environmental protection – the slogan reads: “For centuries, the planet has taken care of us. Now it’s our turn. We do not accept refusals.” The end result was a great example of teamwork, which combined Chiara’s love for photography, Delilah’s skills in computer graphics and Anastasia’s way with words.
