The well was drilled at 349 meters below sea level and reached a depth of 1,700 meters; and is located in the PL532 exploration license on the Skavl exploration prospect, 5km to the south of Johan Castberg. The well has confirmed the presence of good quality oil and gas in sandstones from the Jurassic and Triassic ages, with volumes of recoverable oil estimated between 20 and 50 million barrels. The discovery was made under the joint venture agreement, of which ENI is a member, for the exploration of the Johan Castberg field. After completing the Skavl well, the rig will move 16 km north, where it will continue its exploration in Kramsnø. Statoil is the key operator behind the PL532 production license, in which ENI Norge AS has a stake of 30%, Petoro AS of 20% and Statoil of 50%.
