Feb. 13 – “Egyptian art conservation. Training in the restoration of Egypt’s Museum in Cairo” is a book detailing the 2008-2010 training program by the Higher Institute for Conservation and Restoration. The program took place in Egypt thanks to funding by the Italian Development Cooperation agency. The aim of the project was to requalify the conservation and restoration services of Egyptian art. The training developed specific professional skills for 120 participants, all curators, restorators and librarians. The program was developed according to the bilateral protocol between Italy and Egypt, signed in 2007, and the following convention between the Italian Foreign Affairs Ministry and the Egyptian Cultural Affairs Ministry. The program saw the participation of Rome’s Higher Conservation and Restoration Institute as well as the Center for Libraries and Archives. The project also established a program for the reorganisation of the Midan Tahrir Museum in Cairo, developed under Mibact’s supervision. The Coptic Museum, the Islamic Art Museum, the National Egyptian Civilisation Museum and the Textile Art Museum were also part of the project. Thanks to the recovery of art pieces after the 2011 revolution also allowed for the creation of the “Destruction and Recovery” exhibition, which highlights the great steps forward taken in the field of conservation and restoration in Egypt.
