June 20 – The year started with a bang for Italian sparkling wines. The figures were provided by the ISMEA, the Institute of Agricultural and Food Services Market: “After the excellent performance of 2013, exports for Italian sparkling wine recorded in the first quarter of 2014 an 18% increase in volume (+19% in value), due exclusively to the 38% increase for the item ‘other PDO sparkling wines’ (which includes Prosecco).” Italian bubbles are popular in Tirano, with double-digit growth, the U.S. and the UK, while sales in Germany have slowed down.
