(Jul. 1st) From Piedmont to China in the sign of theater. An historic agreement for exchanges and co-productions has been closed between the Teatro Regio Torino and the National Centre for the Performing Arts (NCPA), better known as the Beijing Opera. The superintendent Walter Vergnano, host of the “2014 NCPA World Opera Forum”, a conference dedicated to the theme: “Influenze di culture diverse nella produzione operistica e alle diverse esigenze del pubblico occidentale e del pubblico orientale” – where he gave the keynote speech – has signed together with President Chen Ping the first Memorandum of Understanding between the Bejing Opera, the most important Chinese theater, and the Teatro Regio. The agreement provides for the exchange of knowledge, workshops, training courses, internships and, most importantly, the first Chinese-Italian co-production of an opera, “Samson et Dalila” by Camille Saint-Saëns, directed by Hugo de Ana. Moreover, thanks to this agreement, in September 2015 it will be possible to see the European premiere of Guo Wenjing’s “Rickshaw Boy”, staged for the very first time just a few days ago in Beijing.
