Ontario – “Last year, Italian agri-food exports reached €33 billion, and wine was the most exported product, with € 5 billion. One of the most important markets for wine is Canada, but our presence there needs to be strengthened,” said the vice president of Confagricoltura, Giandomenico Consalvo, during a seminar on the Canadian market and business opportunities. Italian wine exports to Canada between 2008 and 2012 increased by 40.2%, but between 2012-2013 decreased by 1%. This trend confirmed itself in a much more pronounced way in the first three months of 2014 (-7.6% compared to the same period of 2013). The main competitors come from France and the US. Italy currently occupies the third position. Confagricoltura also stressed that the virtually non-ezistente input tariffs are an incredible opportunity (the average ad valorem tariff is in fact equal to 0.3%). (9Colonne)
