July 29 – Italian artists are once again center stage at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Buenos Aires. This time, visitors will admire the works of Francesca Leone. The daughter of the great spaghetti western director Sergio Leone is showcased for the first time in Argentina at the MACBA, thanks to the sponsorship of the Italian Embassy in Argentina. The “Metamorphosis” exhibition was put together by Giacinto di Pietrantonio; it reconstructs Francesca Leone’s creative path “on the change in the shape and structure of the represented subjects.” It’s an aesthetics discovery, as says the curator, that builds into the significant artistic tradition of metamorphosis. By using organic materials, plastic, vinyl glue, sand, sawdust, bitumen, cellophane, the artist recreates the evolutionary process of life, the unity of the body and earth. “This project is a source of great pride for the Italian Embassy in Argentina because it brings together the Museum of Contemporary Art in Buenos Aires and Francesca Leone’s works: it’s an example of the vitality of contemporary art in Italy,” writes – on the website of the artist – Teresa Castaldo, Italian Ambassador in Argentina. Castaldo also points out that the MACBA “will host in the coming months two other important Italian exhibitions, reflecting a great interest in Italian art and the desire to strengthen and enhance the deep cultural ties that exist between the two countries.” Inaugurated on Saturday, July 19, the exhibition will remain open to the public until Sunday, September 21.
