Sept. 12 – In mid-October, after an intense period of training, 51 scientists and engineers from Italian universities, research institutes and companies, will take part in the next scientific mission sponsored by the Antarctica National Research Program. Many of them will carry out their research at the “M. Zucchelli” base at Terra Nova Bay and in the remote internal base, working in extreme environmental and weather conditions. For this reason, the scholars are following the instruction of Army Mountaineering experts. They are undergoing survival training in a mountainous environment at the Alpine Training Centre in Courmayeur and La Thuile. In addition to theoretical and practical lessons in first aid delivery, they are training to live and work on high mountains, glaciers and in isolation. Before tackling the high altitude course, the staff received a week-long training at ENEA, at its Research Center in Brasimone (Bo).
