Nov. 7 – As part of the semester of Italian Presidency of the EU, the Italian Embassy in Berlin builds a reflection on the role played by Italy and its Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the genesis of the Union: from the institution of the European Coal and Steel Community (1951) to the Treaty of Rome and the birth the EEC (1957). The Italian Embassy, with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, proposed a study on the art and architecture that decorates since 1940 the headquarters of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Starting from November 17 until December 4, guided tours at the Embassy will present about forty works, which focuses on the construction site of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the interior design project by Enrico Del Debbio (1953-1959), the later artistic interventions in the halls acquired through open competition (1965-1970), in line with the artistic culture of the 1950s. The architectural design is documented by drawings, vintage photographs, maquettes from the Del Debbio archives (MAXXI, Rome) and the ministry. The art focuses specifically on the works created in the 1950s that is either owned by the ministry or was loaned to the Collection Farnesina bu Accardi, African, Bertini, Earl, Dorazio, Leoncillo Sanfilippo, Scanavino… The exhibit also displays sketches of the decoration interventions made in the 1950s and 1960s, some of which were lent by the permanent heritage collection of the Farnesina (Selva, Scordia), while others may be found in the artistic archives of Bevilacqua, Calo Cascella , Coccia, Consagra, Tot, Montanarini, Novelli, Tomato, Quaroni, Scialoja.
