Jan. 6 – Have you ever wondered why the Tower of Pisa is still standing? All the secrets of one of the best known Italian symbols will be unveiled on January 10 (6:30pm) during a conference hosted at the Italian Cultural Institute of San Francisco. The event will see the participation of two leading experts on the restoration project of the Tower – Professor Michele Jamiolkowski and Professor Carlo Viggiani. Together, they will talk about the history of the structure, the recent initiatives and the engineering works undertaken to stabilize the tower. Furthermore, a scale model of the building, 3 meters high and handcrafted in alabaster by artisans in Volterra, will be on display at the Westfield Mall in San Francisco until February 10. The month-long promotional initiative includes B2B meetings, conferences and a school competition. The events have the support of the IIC, the Consulate General of Italy in San Francisco, the City and the Chamber of Commerce of Pisa, and Toscana Promozione. (Red)
