Mar. 10 – Women and the Great War are certainly an important element to commemorate on the centenary of the First World War. This is why the Italian Cultural Institute of Marseille has organized for tomorrow, starting at 6pm at its headquarters, an appointment to talk about the role of women during the conflict, which served as an emancipation force. Women replaced men in many of their daily duties, and even went to war with them as members of the Red Cross, as bearers, as prostitutes, but also as spies and intellectuals in favor or against the conflict. The event begins with a conference by Claudia Galimberti and Elena Doni, co-authors of the book “Donne nella Grande Guerra,” which tells known and less known stories of women during World War I. Subsequently, author Maria Rosaria Nappi will talk about “The woman, the mother and the motherland in the monuments to the fallen,” a talk that will be followed by the screening of a RAI video on “Le donne si raccontano,” that focuses of the importance of women in Europe and the world during the war.
