Oct. 13 – Women in the Great War: what was their role? There weren’t only Red Cross nurses and bearers, but also spies, missionaries, intellectuals in favor or against the war: Margherita Sarfatti, Eva Amendola and Angelica Balabanoff, teacher-militarist Fanny Dal Ry, and fashionista Rosa Genoni, who left her job and fought against the war are just some of the many women active in the conflict. A panel discussion in Vilnius will focus on the topic with journalists Claudia Galimberti, Maria Serena Palieri, and Francesca Sancin, authors of the book “Donne nella grande guerra” and journalist Amedeo La Mattina, author of “Mai sono stata tranquilla,” a biography of Angelica Balabanoff. The conference, organized by the Italian Institute of Culture, will be held on October 17 at 5.30pm at the French Institute of Vilnius. The event will follow a staged reading of extracts on the protagonists of the conflict.
