Apr. 17 – Molise, despite its small size, a reality that receives international interest and praise, especially for its excellent food products. And many Molise companies continue to receive support overseas. An example? La Molisana, the pasta company present in the US market with growing numbers. Another example is the network of companies “Tipico Italiano” that brings together 7 companies producing a range of niche agri-food products (wine, extra virgin olive oil, pasta, coffee, preserves and jams, dairy products, cheese and truffles). The traditional products of the Italian region were recently in New York, at the prestigious CUNY Graduate Center, with 120 nutritionists, directors and managers of public programs on nutrition, decision makers, operators of small, medium and large retail and catering chains, as well as chefs and restaurateurs from Spain, Greece, France, Turkey and Cyprus. These operators were accompanied by specialized journalists, anddebated, during a special panel discussion, the importance of introducing a balanced diet, modeled on the Mediterranean one, in schools, hospitals, bars, restaurants and all other public places where there is a food service. The event, organized with the sponsorship of EXPO, saw the participation of Molise thanks to the action of the Chamber of Commerce and Unioncamere Molise Campobasso. The region, with its companies and experts, proposed a specific intervention titled “From Molise to yourtable. For Real. Territory of origin and new strategies of food traceability system.” The scientific component was edited by Professor Giovanni Scapagnini, one of the greatest experts on the subject. In addition to being an Associate Professor of Clinical Biochemistry in the Department of Medicine at the University of Molise, Scapagnini is also a medical neuroscientist, an expert in the biological mechanisms of aging, especially in terms of cerebral aging; and is associate professor at the Institute of Neurological Sciences (CNR Catania) and the Blanchette Rockefeller Neurosciences Institute of West Virginia University, Rockville (MD), USA.
