(May 25) The efforts of the Euregio region for development cooperation continue, with a project in East Africa, in a border region between Uganda and Tanzania. The projects involves, in addition to the autonomous provinces of Trento and Bolzano and the Land Tirol, other local actors and civil society groups of the territories involved. The provincial councilor for development cooperation met a delegation from Uganda, led by Peter Ssenkaayi of the non-governmental organization Maddo, headed by the Caritas, which is coordinating the project in Uganda. Ssenkaayi was accompanied by Matthias Danninger, coordinator of the project for the Tyrol, Alexandra Poeder, contact person for the Province of Bolzano, and Paola Delrio representing the Autonomous Province of Trento. “This collaboration represents our new approach to development cooperation – said the commissioner – we are carrying it out with the other territories of the Euregio and getting involved other elements of civil society from Northern Italy and Uganda, like the Muse and cooperatives. We believe and hope that your visit will brig something extra to meet the challenges that lie ahead.” So far the project has supported young farmers, helping combat the depopulation of the countryside, creating wells, providing equipment such as a machine for milk pasteurization and packaging.
