June 10 – Another prestigious recognition for the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia (Unimore). Among the 20 European experts in nutrition, of which only two come from Italy, selected to be part of the European Food Safety Authority EFSA (Panel “Dietetic Products, Nutrition and Allergy”) based in Parma, there is also Marco Vinceti, Professor of Hygiene and Epidemiology in the Department of Medicine at Unimore. The task entrusted to Professor Vinceti starts on 1 July and continues for the next three years. The appointment, made after a lengthy selection process that examined experts in human nutrition, epidemiology, biochemistry and toxicology from different EU countries, will result in the development of health assessments for foodstuffs distributed in the European Union and health and environmental recommendations for the European Commission and Member States. “I am pleased and honored to accept this appointment – commented Vincenti – and I look forward to work at the EFSA on nutritional issues by adopting an epidemiological approach. However, I am aware of the scientific complexity and delicacy of this responsibility we have towards consumers, policy makers, public health professionals and the productive world. I trust I’ll also have the support of Unimore colleagues working in this sector, with many of whom I had the opportunity to work in recent years on nutritional epidemiology.” (red)
