(Jul. 10) “Have you already read the Divine Comedy of Dante? Would you like to read it again? Do you think the text is too complicated and it needs a little h? The Italian Cultural Institute offers you the opportunity to accompany you on the journey inside this beautiful masterpiece.” This invitation comes from Dublin: among the many initiatives around the world to celebrate the 750th anniversary of the birth of Dante Alighieri (that anticipates the 2021 celebration 700 years after his death), the one from the IIC is among the most original and interesting. To bring the public closer to the father of the Italian language, the Institute of the Irish capital has organized a series of meetings: “We will start – states the IIC – on July 21 with the first canto. The explanation will be in English, but the goal is to make sure that readers can follow and appreciate the original text in Italian.” The meetings dedicated to “The Divine Comedy” will not end that day: they will continue on the 22th, with the first song of the Purgatory, and 23th, with the first canto of Paradise.
