October 21st, 2015 – Olive oil is an ambassador of Italian food in the world; and the excellence of Italian food was the star in Australia for “Great Olive Oil 2015”, a competition among the leading Italian-Australian olive oil producers. “The production of olive oil is one of the Italian traditional activities that have most marked our presence in the world,” said the Consul General in Melbourne Marco Maria Cerbo on the occasion of the award ceremony. The competition was organized by the Consulate General and by the furniture house Schiavello (the largest producer of office furniture in Australia), whose owner was recently awarded a major Italian honor. The Schiavello owner is of Calabrian origin and participated in the competition with his own oil. In one of the best restaurants along the Yarra River in Melbourne, a jury of experts selected the best of the oils produced by seven Italian-Australian families, all businessmen and professionals. These entrepreneurs produce oil for passion and to maintain a link with the traditions of their homelands: Sicily and Calabria. All participants make oils with Italian machinery, to ensure their quality. The recognition of the jury went to the Trovatello family, originally from the town of Nicastro, in the province of Catanzaro. The Trovatello brothers have eight thousand olive trees in the area of the Macedon Ranges, a picturesque hilly area north of Melbourne. The Schiavello family received the audience award, who voted their favorite oil during the evening. (Red)
