October 23rd, 2015 – An exceptional observer for an evocative and fascinating exhibition. Lorenzo Jovanotti – guest of the Italian Cultural Institute in New York – has had a chance to see the exhibition curated by Marco Bertoli: “Light of Southern Italy”. Music and art have had a strong bond throughout Jovanotti’s artistic production and for this reason the singer was invited to the Institute in New York for the 15th edition of the Italian Language Week (this year dedicated to the theme ” Italian music, and musicality of Italian”). His participation in the Foreign Ministry event served as the perfect opportunity to enjoy a personal tour with exhibition curator Bertoli on the 34 works devoted to the Italian pictorial heritage from the 19th century, particularly that of southern Italy, still little known in the United States. Italian Consul General Natalia Quintavalle was also present. Bertoli, art connoisseur of paintings from the 19th and early 20th centuries, has been since 2005 a consultant for the auction house Christie’s, in Rockefeller Center. “Light of Southern Italy” has become in a few weeks an exhibition-event in New York and has also won the honors of the President of the Italian Republic, Sergio Mattarella. The exhibit is a journey in the Mediterranean and its colors: from the ruins of Pompeii to the Vesuvius, from the rugged coast to the charm of the locals. The realist works by Antonio Mancini and the landscapes en plein-air by Francesco Lojacono and Gabriele Smargiassi mix with the daily life scenes immortalized by Filippo Palizzi and Marco De Gregorio: for the first time, these 34 works from private collections are on display in the United States.
