November 26th, 2015 – From Rome to Lucca via… the world. This is the vast audience that followed, on 19 November, the live surgery performed at the hospital San Luca di Lucca. The operation was aired as part of the 30th International Congress of Surgery of the Digestive System that took place in the Italian capital. Over 1,500 surgeons were present in the Auditorium Massimo in Rome to attend the intervention-event, along with 6,000 more who followed the operation from 33 countries as it was streamed live around the world. The General Surgery of Lucca was selected, together with a few other centers such as the Institute San Raffaele in Milan and the Cancer Institute Regina Elena in Rome, to perform complex oncology live surgery.
