(12 January 2016) A day to strengthen the bond between Italy and Tunisia is scheduled today at the Italian Cultural Institute in Tunis, where a book by Siena Professor Tania Groppi will be presented. The volume centers around the new Tunisian Constitution. The seminar, entitled “The new Tunisian constitution: a bridge across the Mediterranean. Experiences of collaboration between Italy and Tunisia”, will see the participation of a number of Italian and Tunisian experts and institutional representatives, including the Italian Ambassador, the Dean of the University of Carthage, the mayor of Tunis, who is also president of the National Union of Tunisian cities. Professor Groppi – explicates a note from the University of Siena – actively collaborated with Tunisian lawyers in the drafting of the new Constitution. The book, edited by Groppi along with Irene Spigno, is entitled “Tunisia. The spring of the Constitution” (publisher Carocci, 2015); the volume explores the theme of democratic transition and the Tunisian constituent process after the Jasmine Revolution, and provides a comprehensive overview of the new Tunisian Constitution. The essay is also the product of the work carried out by the University of Siena in Tunisia, under the project to support the constitutional process and the affirmation of decentralization, also coordinated by Groppi. The project is a collaboration with the Tuscany Region, the Province of Siena, the University of Carthage, the University of Sousse and the Kasserine Governorate. The presentation of the book and the debate is organized by the Italian Cultural Institute in Tunis, the University of Siena, the Faculté des Sciences Juridiques, Politiques et Sociales in Tunis and the Italian Embassy in Tunisia.
