(12 January, 2016) The artistic nativity scene from Basilicata by maestro Francesco Artese, a leading professional in the Southern nativity scene school, isn’t homebound just yet. After crossing the ocean and reaching the Big Apple to bring the spirit of Lucania to New York Christmas, the representation of the Nativity, on display until the Epiphany in St. Patrick’s Cathedral in New York, it will be relocated at the Sheen Center. This is possible thanks to the Matera in miniature corner – where art, history, culture and religion come together – set up as a promotional activity of Basilicata’s APT on behalf of the Region, with ENIT and the Italian Consulate, with the support of Sviluppo Basilicata and the availability of the Diocese of New York. The nativity scene is inspired by the cultural landscape of Lucania and specifically to the charming area of the Sassi of Matera city, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and the European Capital of Culture for 2019. The nativity scene is intended as a vehicle to promote the image of the region, its art, religious traditions and universal values of solidarity. (Red)
