(1 March 2016) The Prize “Italian of the Year”, awarded by the Comites in Berlin (Comites are the Italian representative bodies in each consular jurisdiction) goes this year to two Italians who, through their commitment, have significantly contributed to the enhancement of Italian identity in the Berlin, Brandenburg, Saxony, Saxony-Anhalt and Thuringia areas. “The Committee – explained the organizers of the Award – wanted to give recognition to two different expressions of social commitment. On the one hand, we chose Mauro Mondello, a young journalist who, with his work, helps focus public attention on the situation of migrants and displaced populations in the context of war and conflict. On the other hand, we decided to reward the selfless commitment of Sestilia Bressan in favor of the terminally ill and those in need at hospitals and in the Italian Catholic Mission in Berlin.” The awards ceremony will take place tomorrow, March 2, at the Berlin Italian Cultural Institute at 7pm. During the evening, moderated by Elettra de Salvo, participants will also watch the documentary “Lampedusa in Berlin”, edited by Mauro Mondello. The winners of the COMITES 2015 Prize will receive a work created by Italian-Berlin artist Fulvio Pinna. Afterwards, there will be a tasting of Lazio products (from the district of Sperlonga, Fondi, Slow Food Presidium of Monte San Biagio) and wines offered by the import company “Koriandrum” and the company “Terra e Verde”.
