Juba. Violent clashes still cause bloodshed in Juba, South Sudan. INTERSOS, operating in the country, expresses concern about the population’s condition. “The situation in Juba is very tense, in recent days we have heard continuous gunfire and mortar fire from our base,” says Davide Berruti, INTERSOS Mission Chief in South Sudan. “Our staff are safe, but we are extremely concerned about the insecurity that is once again breaking down on the civilian population. Bullets and grenades also hit camps of displaced people, worsening an already dramatic situation. Our priority right now is to help the population that has been affected by the consequences of this latest wave of violence. We are waiting the fighting to subside to be able to gain access into the camp in Juba, we are preparing to bring relief to the affected population. At the moment the fighting is concentrated in Juba while there is high tension in the rest of the country our staff is continuing to assist displaced people”. (9Colonne)
